This is a true story of poker stars Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu playing and betting golf.
They were playing a match 2 years ago at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas and playing for $25,000-$50,000 a hole. They get to a long par 5 and Negreanu (a bad golfer) says "I bet $250,000 I can par this hole from the back tees."
Ivey takes him up on it and they ask the caddies if they want a piece of the action. Both caddies say sure knowing he can't make par and go in for a couple of grand.
Negreanu's tee shot goes about a foot off the ground and maybe 200 yards. Now he 450 yards away, up hill to a severely sloped green. He's asks if they want to double the bet. Everyone says sure.
His next 2 shots aren't much better and he finally ends up on the far side of the green 75 feet from the hole in 4 with a putt that goes over 2 swales and has a huge break. He must now make the putt for par to win the bet. He asks if they want to double again. Everyone jumps on the chance. The bet with Ivey is now 1 million and just under 10 grand with the caddies.
He makes the putt. Ivey has no expression. Just shrugs.
This was told to me personally by one of the unfortunate caddies who was not in position to lose 10 grand...
